Cancelled!?

October 13, 2008

After a decade of stories, and 130 issues of fun Spider-Girl is finally going to get canceled. This is definitely sad news, since Spider-Girl (and later, Amazing Spider-Girl) has been one of the most consistently entertaining books out there. Oh well. All good things must come to an end.

The good news is that we were treated to an awesome Spider-Girl card way back during Marvel Legends. It seems highly unlikely that we’d be so lucky, but seeing some MC2 love during a future Hobby League expansion might be extremely cool.

Besides, nobody is ever really dead in comics. Give it a few years and May Parker will probably end up on another Exiles reboot or something.

Starjammers Baby!

October 12, 2008

I must say, Kamiza’s excellent MEV Polaris preview has me excited for a variety of reasons. First of all, Lorna Dane is one of my favorite characters, and has been ever since she kicked Krakoa’s ass back in the early days of Uncanny. Secondly, and most importantly, she has the STARJAMMERS affiliations!

As a public service I’m going to try and answer all of your Starjammers-related questions, but mostly just one.

Who are the Starjammers?

If there was ever a team that so clearly defined ‘D-List’ it would be the Starjammers. They are best known for appearing in several X-Men/Shi’Ar stories, but have worked alongside others heroes in the past such as The Defenders.

The Starjammers are a ragtag group of space pirates/freedom fighters led by Cyclops’ long-lost father, Corsair. Whenever there is trouble with the Shi’Ar Empire it’s likely that Corsair and the Starjammers are somehow involved. They have fought for the good of the universe on several occasions, often joining forces with Empress Lilandra whenever she gets overthrown in a violent coup (which seem to happen quite often. Go figure.)

Jeepers Creepers

August 18, 2008

Today was a big week for classic Teen Titans supervillain, Dr. Arthur Light:

The Creepiest Supervillain in Comics!

Without giving too much away, let’s just say that Dr. Light won’t be terrorizing Wonder Girl with evil disco balls anytime soon.  Honestly I’m glad it happened, but what will become of the DC Universe (and all of comics) during the interim between his death and subsequent resurrection?! Comic books need a scumbag and they need one NOW.

Fortunately for us there is no shortage of monsters waiting in the wings! Who will be able to claim Dr. Light’s throne as the creepiest supervillain in comic books?

Why The Joker is Pure Evil #1

August 11, 2008

Killing countless innocents and crippling young women is one thing, but…

…stealing a kid’s report card just to make him cry is the worst!

Damn you, Joker!
